Fire & Water - Cleanup & Restoration

What happens to building materials when wet?

A pipe burst damaged the particle board beneath the carpet from this home.

Water and building materials don't mix well together. The swelling wood can warp, decay and buckle, which causes structural issues and reduces the aesthetic appearance. Wet materials can expand up to nine percent, causing weakness and a reduction of thermal capacity. If the water freezes while the materials are damp, it will increase the pressure inside of the items and cause further damage. Different expansion rates occur because of the varying water temperatures located throughout the materials. To prevent water damage from destroying your home, call us immediately after a burst pipe, water supply line leaks or severe weather.
